Back to Bears
Recently, I have focused on using bear imagery again and improving my range of scale. This week I started off with some screen prints of my previous doily bear image blown up to a larger size of around A1. I had a lot of difficulty to begin with making these prints but I have ended up with plenty successes and failures in which I can work back in to.
I then decided I wanted to create some life size bears and so I booked out the Shaun Project Space in order to project some images of standing bears to create drawings from. The bears I am working on are all around 8 feet tall, a small to average grizzly size. I think creating a life size scale was an ambitious move for me but I am pleased with the outcome as I think the naturally large scale is impressive to represent.
An artist I have been researching this week is Britta Jaschinski and her animal photography.' A lot of her work is quite melancholic and emotive with elements of most likely her opinions on animal rights shown through her choice of image, for instance her 'Zoo' series. My favourite series is her 'Dark' series in which a lot of the images are blurred. I find them to be very powerful images and not quite as melancholic as some of her previous work.
