Sue Coe Modern Man Followed by the Ghosts of His Meat (1995)

Sue Coe is both activist and artist, making emotive drawings about animal rights issues such as the meat industry, farming techniques and trophy hunting. Coe's works are very dark and convey a lot of feeling. Her published books such as Dead Meat and Sheep of Fools are very popular amongst animal activist groups and because of this her work has reached a wider audience than purely being work for the display of gallery walls. The strong emotive qualities and combination of art with social issues is what draws me to Coe's work both aesthetically and for the meaning behind the works, although the explicit and dark nature is something I am trying to divert from in my work.
