Scaling up and working 3D

After painting my first 8 foot bear consisting of just a black outline I decided to complete an in colour version which I prefer the finished outcome of because it adds texture and tone. The outlined bear is in the corridor outside my studio space and this bear is in the main entrance of the Priestman building. I like the idea of creating contrasts and interesting relationships within my work and potentially to an audience so the placement of a life size bear painting in a main entrance of a building creates a type of contrast to me between the wild and the man-made.

I also painted an A1 sized bear headshot pictured below. I wanted to look at portraits and expression as an idea of using usually human themes and applying them to just animals but I don't think this piece is as successful as the bear pictured above.

I have started experimenting working in 3D to look at viewing things from different angles and to expand my use of materials. For the small piece below I have used a ready made decoration and painted artificial snow to create the harsh fur texture.

Another artist I have researched since working with some 3D is Xavier Veilhan who creates a range of sculptural works but the ones I am interested in are the geometric human and animal sculptures that are still very recognisable without the need for realism and detail.
